Ranger: 'I'm Back!'

Nile Ranger is back on track after netting a hat-trick for Newcastle United's reserves. The striker fluffed the 'chance of the match' from close range in the 5-0 demolition of West Ham United, but bounced back to show Alan Pardew he is ready for action. He scored three goals in yesterday's 5-1 win over Wigan Athletic, with James Perch and Paul Dummett getting the other two. Peter Beardsley: "When you look at when we beat West Ham, he missed from six yards out. "He missed by miles. That's him, but he's still a kid. "When you look at some of the younger players, he's physically bigger and stronger, but in terms of age, he's a kid. "He's got a lot to learn, but to be fair to him, when he's trained or played for me, his attitude has been spot-on. "He might miscontrol the ball sometimes, but that's what happens at the top level. His attitude's good, and he's got a real chance. "He had a lot of work to do with the power and the pace, and then the finish after it was a great finish. "Credit to him – he scored a hat-trick. Our punters will be delighted to hear that because they love him. He excites them." NEWCASTLE UNITED: Soderberg, Perch (Leadbitter, 65), Dummett, McLaughlin, J Henderson, Folan, Newton, Gosling, Ranger, Xisco (Sammy Ameobi, 73), Ferguson. Subs not used: Alnwick, McDermott, Richardson
