Police held former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger after a large crowd gathered outside popular city nightclub Tiger Tiger on Wednesday.

Ranger admitted a charge of common assault following a fight in a car park.

The London-born striker appeared before Newcastle Magistrates' Court and was charged after police were called to the car park of The Gate entertainment complex.

Ranger, 21,  was given conditional bail and will appear again on April 9 for sentencing.

This week he denied rumours he will join non-league Workington Reds by posting disparaging comments about non-league football.

He told followers: “Lool so now I know there is a lot of dumb *** people in this world. NON LEAGUE LOOOOOOOOL stop it.”
