Potters stun Newcastle

Stoke produced a fine second-half display to come from behind and beat Newcastle 2-1. Kevin Nolan ensured Newcastle edged a disappointing opening half when he tucked away a 43rd-minute penalty after Andy Carroll had been bundled down. Stoke were a different proposition after the break and should have twice been level but Kenwyne Jones hit the post and bar with headers in the space of four minutes. Jones was not to be denied, though, and scored his fourth goal in four games when he nodded home Robert Huth`s header from two yards out. And Stoke deservedly led for the first time when James Perch put through his own net from six yards with five minutes remaining. Nolan should have earned a point for Newcastle in injury time but he placed his shot wide when unmarked from eight yards.
