England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce has made no secret of the fact he thinks Dan Gosling is sure to play for the full team before much longer.

But the former Everton winger, who has had a tough time with injuries, and is still not regarded a Newcastle first team regular.

Gosling has been placed on standby for the England Under-21s’ qualification double header against Iceland and Belgium next week.

Stuart Pearce’s England face Iceland at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium on November 10 before heading to RAEC Mons four days later, where they will face Belgium.

Gosling came on as a substitute late in the game against Stoke City on Monday, but he could get a rare start against his old club on Saturday.
