Pardew's Major Mistake Letting Forster Go To Celtic?

Rob Elliot has to live with that 6-0 humiliation to Liverpool, with some Toon fans claiming Pardew got it sadly wrong letting Fraser Forster go to Celtic.

However Pardew defended himself saying he felt Elliot was “terribly” exposed in the 6-0 defeat and he was pleased with his contribution in Saturday’s goalless draw at Upton Park.

The 27-year-old, signed from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2011 BEFORE Forster was sold to Celtic.

Despite having some nervy moments this season, Elliot pulled off a superb double save to deny former Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan, and a follow-up effort from Matt Jarvis at West Ham.

Alan Pardew: “He got the clean sheet he deserved.

“We exposed him against Liverpool terribly, but he showed what he’s all about.

“Rob made a few important saves for us, especially when we were getting to the end of the game. We were tiring, and he was important.

“We put Shola (Ameobi) on, and he was carrying a knock.

“I thought Rob had to produce three or four good moments for the team, and he did.”
