Pardew Turns To Gabon Striker!

Alan Pardew could make an earlier than expected move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this month - if United fail in their bid to sign Marseille star Loic Remy.

The Chronicle reports the Gabon international – who scored at St James’ Park in the Olympics against Switzerland – is keen on the move, if St Etienne decide to give the green light.

The 6ft 1in striker – who United have looked at closely in the last year – is in line to be United’s Plan B this winter.

Sources close to Aubameyang have indicated that the 23-year-old is open to the idea of staying with St Etienne until the end of the season before assessing his options.

Newcastle officials have been in France this weekend to speak to representatives and clubs about some of their targets.

A source close to Aubameyang told the Chronicle: “He is aware of Newcastle’s interest and likes the idea. He was planning on staying at St Etienne until at least the end of the season.

“If there was a bid, though, he owes it to himself to listen.”

Newcastle had initially looked at £6.2m rated Aubameyang as an option for the summer window.

But Magpies officials are ruling nothing out as the January window heats up.

Bundesliga clubs such Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund are still in the hunt for France international Remy.

That means that the fee for Remy – currently thought to be £11m – could still be hiked up if the move for the 26-year-old turns into a bidding war.
