Pardew Tells The Truth About Scottish 'Joke League'

24 May 2011 18:06
Alan Pardew's comments about the Premier League in Scotland have got the sporrans flapping north of the border. Pardew said: “I think Fraser is coming back to a completely different level of football - I will tell you that now. “We have watched that division and watched him all year. We have been disappointed with the quality of the games, other than the occasional Rangers versus Celtic game, and even some of those have been poor.” We have received the usual abuse from Chilly Jockoland in e-mails for publishing the story ... but come on ... Pardew is only telling the truth! No other league in the world has had only two teams win their league for ... God knows how long ... probably since the battle of Bannockburn. But the latest 'Sweaty Sock' to strike out at Pardew is Dundee United boss Peter Houston. It's not the 'Old Firm' Pardew has a problem with ... it's the rest of the league. Hearts were 3rd favourites to win the league and they were something like 200/1 at the start of the season. They could have been 20,000/1 ... they still had as much chance of winning it as Geordie boy Robson Green had of pulling in the Loch Ness monster on 'Extreme Fishing'. Peter Houston: “It is not even worth commenting on it, because we have international players playing in the SPL who could walk into the Newcastle team. “They play at a very high level in European football, on a number of occasions as well. “If you take Rangers, for instance, their runs in Europe in the last couple of years have been fantastic, so that is them playing at a high level and in the SPL. “Also Celtic and Scotland midfielder Scott Brown has played in the Champions League as well. “Alan is entitled to his opinion, but it is not something with which I agree.”
