Danny Simpson says Alan Pardew has worked on the defence ... and that has been the reason for the cleen sheets in the last two fixtures. Danny Simpson: “I think the manager has brought in new ideas. And defensively we are going out and trying to put them into practice. “We do have a lot of set plays too, and Alan has brought in ideas which people are taking on board. “We haven’t been able to train properly since he came because of the weather. “But things are starting to click. “Now it’s time to show that on the pitch.” “I want to play in every game, to be honest. “We have had a lot of games over the Christmas period, but I still want to play. “I don’t want to let somebody else come in and get my place. “If they play well then they might retain their place, so I am keen to keep going. “Stevenage will be a tough game, but after that we have a good week to prepare for Sunderland. “I think most of the lads are in the same frame of mind as me. “We’ve jumped up the table and it gives us breathing space. "Leon Best was superb against West Ham and took his goals really well. “I think he’s proved to everybody that he is a good player. Not just the fans but to the squad as well. “If you aren’t playing, it can be hard, but it’s a long season and you will get that opportunity. “Credit to him, he’s kept his head down and worked hard. “People were writing him off, and there were rumours he was going to leave. But those rumours will go now because he’s shown he is a key player for us in the Premier League. “He’s not played for a lot of months but he’s come back and shown what he can do. He worked hard and led the line."
