Pardew Sits 'Up In The Gods'

Alan Pardew will serve the first game of a two-match suspension against Everton on Monday night, and John Carver, his assistant, will be in charge on the touchline.

Pardew pleaded guilty to a Football Association charge of improper conduct for a shove on linesman Peter Kirkup in the club’s season-opener against Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Alan Pardew: “I like to stand close to the sideline – I can feel the game there.

“I can understand what the players are going through when I’m that close.

“Sometimes, because I’m detached, I can understand how they are feeling, and that will be taken away from me.

“Obviously, I’ll be in the stand, and I’ll look at it in a different way.

“Maybe I’ll see things like the shape of the team. John can do the role I normally do.”
