Pardew Rides His Luck (And Why Not)

Having infuriated Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas by saying his team was sluggish after playing in the Europa League, Alan Pardew now tells us ...

... his Newcastle United team are playing very well, despite Spurs raining more than 30 shots at Tim Krul's goal on Sunday.

And the Toon boss says he will always have "a winning mentality" - despite having won NOWT in his entire career as a player and manager.

Having been beaten by Sunderland in the Wear-Tyne derby just over a fortnight ago, doom and gloom had set in over Tyneside with tough fixtures against Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to come.

United lost to City but put in a decent performance; but the results against the London pair were exceptional; even if the stats show Newcastle struck lucky against Spurs.

Alan Pardew: “Anybody who knows me will know I always expect to win.

“I’ve always been like that. I’m a positive guy.

“On reflection, when I look back and think ‘we’ve got six points’, I’m going to be very happy, because you wouldn’t expect to.

“I genuinely think we’ve been playing well.

“I said that before the Chelsea game.

“It’s been proved again.”

The victory at White Hart Lane made it 10 points from their last five league games, with just the defeat to Sunderland spoiling United’s recent form.

In that spell, Pardew’s men also drew 2-2 with Liverpool, despite being down to 10 men for 50 minutes, while they took big-spending Manchester City to extra-time in the Capital One Cup before losing 2-0.
