Pardew Needs To Get A Grip On Set-Plays!

11 March 2013 11:28
The score ticked on yesterday against Stoke ... and I don't mean goals scored. We reached a staggering QUARTER CENTURY of corner kicks without scoring.

The 250 soon became 260, as we wasted chance after chance after chance.

Can anyone believe how a Premiership club can take so many corner kicks and not score?

I'd put Fenham Under-10's on St James' Park pitch against a Premiership team, and the laws of averages would say they would score at least ONCE from 260 corners.

The last time we scored from a corner was Demba Ba's goal against Wolves in 2011.

So WHY do we watch Newcastle play the same ball in - to the same players - with NO strategy, no system ... no idea!

Alan Pardew: “The chances were almost zero (of United scoring from a set-play).

“I said before the game we should be doing things shorter and quicker.

I thought we were slow in doing that in the first-half.

“We took some quick free-kicks. That is really how you expect to score against Stoke.

“If you’re the goalie, and you have 6ft plus players protecting you, you’d come out and collect them."
