Newcastle boss Alan Pardew wants to move on quickly after a harrowing first night of the season.
The Magpies had a man sent off in a 4-0 thrashing at Manchester City that came just hours after an unsettling bid from Arsenal for key player Yohan Cabaye.
Pardew had said his team were "more than ready" for their opening test at the Etihad Stadium but his plans were thrown into disarray by Arsenal's offer, thought to be £10million, for Cabaye.
The Frenchman was pulled out of the Barclays Premier League game and without him the team struggled, conceding inside six minutes and losing Steven Taylor to a straight red card for swiping at Sergio Aguero.
City were rampant, scoring through David Silva, Aguero, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri to leave Pardew with much to ponder.
"I would rather focus on what for us has been a tough day," said Pardew in response to questions about Cabaye.
"We have 37 games to go and we need to make sure we don't let this game emotionally scar us."
City have spent close to £90million freshening up their squad for new manager Manuel Pellegrini over the summer.
Such investment puts them in a different league to the likes of Newcastle, but Pardew felt his team showed some spirit.
Although 2-0 down, he thought the Magpies competed well until Taylor's sending off early in the second half.
