Pardew 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!'

21 November 2013 11:30
He said last May "THANK GOD we are not in Europe next season", and now Alan Pardew ...

... may have to face a bigger trial than "I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here!"

Former Newcastle midfielder Dietmar Hamann reckons Alan Pardew's side have all the ingredients to push for a top-six league finish this season.

Pardew's men started off with a dismal 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City on the opening day, but recent results have got the German wondering if the Magpies are going to be the surprise package of 2013/4.

And while inconsistencies are still evident, and Spurs' 32 shots at Tim Krul's goal would normally produce a thrashing, the results are proving better value than the performances.

Do we continue to ride our luck - or will performances improve?

Back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Tottenham have seen United climb to ninth in the league standings, just two points behind City who played them off the park back in August.

Hamann: "If you look at the table now, you've got to say they've done well.

"They had a decent start to the season but they lost to Sunderland and you think 'it's back to the Newcastle of old' win one then losing two.

"But the last two games could change their season, they're two points off Manchester City now and they've got a golden opportunity to cement their place in the top six or eight against Norwich.

"It's a dangerous team because once these French players hit form and start to roll, they'll be hard to stop and [Loic] Remy looks like he's scoring goals for fun.

"They've got a good goalkeeper, they're solid in defence and they look like they've got some players who can make the difference going forward."

So Europe could be on the cards, which is BRILLIANT news for the Geordie faithful ... but will put the fear of GOD in poor Pardew.

I feel a nervous breakdown in the air!

MAGPIES IN EUROPE -

HARVEY TO PARDEW

The new version of "Magpies In Europe" will be launched next week.

Although NUFC are not talking to the Chronicle or Sunday Sun ... we are!

And the full story is expected to be in newspapers within the next two weeks.

The official new title is "Magpies In Europe - Harvey To Pardew" and is an up-dated version of "From Antwerp To Zurich" - which includes the 14 Europa League fixtures we played last season.

The 280-page book features match reports from the 134 European matches Newcastle United have played, starting with the memorable 4-0 win over Feyenoord in 1968 on our European debut.

Included are stats and the figures you would expect, but also each away fixture has the remarkable experiences of individuals who travelled to watch the matches.

Introduction by "Big Bad" John McNamee, part of the Fairs Cup winning team of 1969.

It is a fascinating history that every Newcastle United fan will enjoy.

And with a limited print-run, make sure you order a copy.
