Pardew has Black Cats in sights

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is hoping his side can finish the season above north east rivals Sunderland. The Black Cats snatched a point with a last-gasp equaliser in a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light on Sunday after Kevin Nolan had fired the Magpies ahead. Victory would have reduced the gap between the two clubs to two points with Newcastle having a game in hand, but Pardew nevertheless left Wearside with Sunderland very much in his sights. He said: "I am sure Steve will sit here and say he is higher in the league at the moment, so it's something else we would like to address before the end. "There's a long way to go yet, but the performance of the team was excellent. "We almost got three [consecutive] clean sheets in the Premier League, which would have been really nice, and two extra points, so we have had a disappointment and we have to fuel ourselves for next week, which is a really tough game against Spurs."
