Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was given a two-match touchline ban and a £20,000 ($31,783) fine after accepting a Football Association (FA) charge of improper conduct on Monday.
Pardew was sent off during his side's 2-1 win over Tottenham at St James' Park last month after he shoved linesman Peter Kirkup when the official failed to award his side a throw-in.
The Magpies boss apologised immediately after the match, but was charged by the FA and an Independent Regulatory Commission handed down the punishment at Monday's hearing.
Pardew's suspension will take place with immediate effect, meaning the former West Ham and Southampton manager will be forced to sit in the stands during Newcastle's Premier League games against Everton and Norwich.
"Following an Independent Regulatory Commission held today (Monday 3 September 2012), Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been given a two match touchline suspension and fined £20,000 after he accepted an FA charge of improper conduct," a statement on the FA's website announced.
"Pardew, who requested a personal hearing, was charged following an incident which occurred during his side's match against Tottenham Hotspur on 18 August 2012.
"The suspension will take place with immediate effect."
