Pardew Didn't Sell Perch - It Was Kinnear!

Alan Pardew said last May: "The reason we struggled this campaign is because injuries hit our THIN squad and we struggled to cope with the pressure of the Europa League. The squad wasn't big enough."

Now - Alan The Doormat - has to respond to the fans to explain why Joe Kinnear sold James Perch to Championship club Wigan Athletic - because I can promise you - it was Kinnear who did the deal.

Did Pardew want Perch to leave? Of course he didn't!

He gave constant praise to his "utility player" throughout last season, saying "Perch is vital to us because he can fit in anywhere along the back-line and in midfield."

Kinnear arrives and says: "I'm going to move on the players I don't believe are good enough", and take special note of the reference to "I", not "we".

The Perch transfer surprised some fans given the amount of football the 27-year-old played last season, and how highly Pardew rated him.

Perch’s versatility proved invaluable to Newcastle.

While Pardew has admitted he’d have liked to have kept Perch, he felt letting him go was the right call.

Alan Pardew: “We have a squad that is quite thick, actually.

“It was right for (Perch) to move on. I don’t think he could have played a bit part for us next year.

“With our best team, I didn’t think he was going to start regularly. Therefore he moves on.

“I think there might be one or two others in that boat.”

As Pardew is still waiting to see WHO Kinnear wants out, the Newcastle manager cannot name who will be next.
