Owen - I can keep us up

Michael Owen remains confident he can fire Newcastle to safety, but only if he receives the right kind of service.[LNB] The 29-year-old is currently enduring one of the most barren spells of his career as he has found the net just once in his last 14 appearances.[LNB]A miserable season for Owen has seen poor club form culminate in his axing from the England squad, with Fabio Capello having shown little inclination to call on a player who under previous incumbents was an automatic first choice.[LNB]Although Owen's last goal came back in January, an exemplary record in front of goal - even this season he has scored 10 from 22 starts - is cause for cautious optimism.[LNB]Temporary Toon boss Alan Shearer retains confidence in the man he once played alongside and Owen is desperate to keep Newcastle in the top flight.[LNB]Standing"I wake up and know where I stand in terms of performances, my standing in the game, the goals I will score given the opportunities and everything else," he said.[LNB]"I have been around a long time and everyone knows if I get chances I will score goals.[LNB]"We understand the criticism we've received for where we are in the table, but we also know for a fact we are a better team than we are showing on a regular basis.[LNB]"We have to be brave and positive. We go to Liverpool and we finish the season at Aston Villa, and if we can get some points from those games we'll grasp them.[LNB]"But it's the next home games against Middlesbrough and Fulham that are the major focus."[LNB]
