Owen boost for Magpies

Newcastle captain Michael Owen could be fit for this weekend's make-or-break clash with Aston Villa. The Magpies find themselves needing to avoid defeat against Villa and hope that Hull City lose at home to Manchester United if they are to avoid the drop. Owen missed last weekend's defeat to Fulham after failing a fitness test on a groin injury he picked up in training. Scans have shown Owen's injury is not serious and Magpies boss Alan Shearer is hopeful the former Liverpool man could be available for Sunday's trip to Villa Park. "He had a scan on Monday and there is no serious injury so we're hopeful he'll be involved on Sunday," Shearer told the club's official website.
