Newcastle once again failed to find the net on their US tour as they went down 1-0 to Orlando City at the Citrus Bowl. Subs not used: Krul, Harper. Attendance: 10,889 The Magpies, who drew 0-0 with Sporting Kansas City in their opening tour game, were undone by a 75th-minute goal from Kevin Molino at the Citrus Bowl. Molino swept the ball home from 10 yards following a surging run by fellow substitute Dennis Chin. The goal capped a dominant spell from the hosts, although Haris Vuckic had an 'equaliser' harshly disallowed for offside for Newcastle shortly afterwards after good work by James Tavernier. And Pardew has another injury worry to contend with after Ryan Taylor hobbled off early in the game with a groin problem. The game saw Jose Enrique made his seasonal debut on the Citrus Bowl’s artificial surface after Taylor left the field with 26 minutes on the clock. Newcastle also felt harshly done by after substitute Haris Vuckic had a goal harshly ruled offside. In a first half of few efforts on goal, the best fell to Peter Lovenkrands four minutes before the break. A Jonas Gutierrez corner was headed down by Steven Taylor, but Lovenkrands couldn’t get a proper connection on his attempt, and the ball was turned round for a corner by Miguel Gallardo. Dan Gosling had earlier shot narrowly over the bar, and Enrique had made a couple of raids down the left. At the other end, United had captain Fabricio Coloccini to thank for a superb interception to deny Yordany Alvarez as he lined up an attempt at Fraser Forster’s goal. Pardew sent out an unchanged team for the second half, leaving his four remaining outfield substitutes on the bench. Another Coloccini interception led to a chance for Lovenkrands at the hour-mark, the defender striding out of defence before playing a low ball forward for the striker. However, Lovenkrands couldn’t bring the ball under control quick enough, and it was forced out for a corner. Newcastle were given a let off in the 65th minute, when Orlando City substitute Kevin Molino stole the ball from Enrique, but Matt Luzunaris rolled his shot wide. Lewis Neal shot wide from the same spot a couple of minutes later to the frustration of the home fans behind Forster’s goal. With United firmly on the back foot, Luke Boden tried his luck from distance, but his shot flew over the crossbar. However, Newcastle wouldn’t hold out much longer, and their pressure told when Molino – was only playing after missing a flight to link up with his Trinidad and Tobago team-mates – opened the scoring in the 76th minute. Dennis Chin made a powerful run down the left and crossed for Molino, who coolly beat Forster. Substitute Vuckic, fed by James Tavernier, had a goal disallowed for offside in the dying minutes, while Forster pulled off a one-handed save from Molino. Dennis had another late chance, but Orlando City couldn’t add to their one-goal advantage, and the final whistle sparked huge celebrations among the home support, with the victory having been labelled the biggest in the club’s history.
