The midfield player's groin operation has been hailed a success by Alan Pardew.
The Frenchman jetted over to Colorado for surgery from Dr Richard Steadman and will miss the early part of the new year.
Alan Pardew: "Sylvain has been to America and the op was a success.
"He will be out for three or four months."
