o joke for Kinnear as N'Zogbia insists he'll never play for him again - and Given's set to leave

Shay Given submitted a written transfer request to Newcastle[LNB]last night as manager Joe Kinnear was left reeling by a parting shot from Charles N'Zogbia, who looks set to join Wigan[LNB]. [LNB]Kinnear, who revealed the club have launched a desperate late raid for new players in response to an injury crisis that has sparked fresh relegation fears, has been stunned by N'Zogbia's outburst. [LNB]The frantic transfer activity and injury setbacks will have left Newcastle fans wondering just what kind of team will take to the field in the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland[LNB]on Sunday. [LNB][LNB] Insulted: Charles N'Zogbia will never play for Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear again [LNB]N'Zogbia seems sure to move to Wigan in a deal which will see full back Ryan Taylor switching to St James' Park and the Frenchman said last night: 'First of all, I wish to apologise to fans for wanting to leave. However, having been insulted by Joe Kinnear, I will never play for him again.' [LNB]The manager infuriated the winger when he referred to him as 'Insomnia' in a TV interview and the player added: 'The club are aware there are offers for me and they should accept one.' [LNB]Kinnear responded last night by saying: 'OK, I got a little tonguetied, but if I had a  pound for every time I've mispronounced a player's name down the years then I'd be a very wealthy man indeed. [LNB]'Sadly this just smacks of a desperate attempt to engineer a move away from Newcastle — a club that gave Charles the chance to play in the Premier League and which has rewarded him handsomely during his time here.' [LNB]The incoming Taylor, out of contract with Wigan in the summer, should be a good acquisition. He can play at right back in the absence of Habib Beye, as well as in midfield or on the wing. [LNB]Newcastle have also moved for Bolton[LNB]midfielder Kevin Nolan and Fiorentina's former Italy Under 21 skipper Marco Donadel. [LNB] Bid: Newcastle have expressed an interest in Nolan, pictured above right, tussling with Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen[LNB]And as Joey Barton learned his season is effectively over due to a metatarsal injury he sustained in the 2-1 defeat at Manchester City on Wednesday, Newcastle also enquired about Sporting Lisbon's Miguel Veloso. Veloso, 22, is a defensive midfielder who has been closely followed by Bolton. [LNB]The Portugal star would cost at least £12million and there is doubt as to Newcastle's ability to pay that much in view of Kinnear's claims that club owner Mike Ashley has lost £2bn in the credit crunch. There is also doubt about Bolton's willingness to part with Nolan whose fee would be in the region of £4.5m. [LNB]Donadel, 25, is on Newcastle's radar after captaining Italy to their 2004 European Under-21 Championship triumph and establishing himself as an automatic choice for Fiorentina after starting his career at AC Milan. [LNB] Relegation battle: Kinnear[LNB]The belated transfer activity suggests Ashley is finally responding to Kinnear's distress over his growing injury list. Barton was not the only casualty at City, where Michael Owen limped off with ankle ligament damage. The former England striker sees a specialist today but he is expected to be out for at least a month. [LNB]Given, 32, has been publicly demanding dramatic transfer action for the past two seasons and ironically, the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has now submitted his written request in order to clear obstacles to his proposed move to Manchester City. [LNB] Mark Hughes's side have offered £5m but Ashley left Eastlands on Wednesday without reaching an agreement.[LNB]Kinnear said he would be 'heartbroken' to see Given leave but he is resigned to that happening and the possibility of bringing in new recruits would brighten his mood before Sunday's home derby.[LNB]With just one draw from their last five league games, Newcastle are in freefall and Kinnear admitted: 'I am well aware we're in a relegation battle, but we do not have the right equipment to fight it. [LNB]'I do need players, I do need help. I have more having treatment than there are on the pitch. I don't know what team we are going to be able to put out against Sunderland.' [LNB] [LNB] Enlarge [LNB]But it is not all gloom. Mark Viduka could be on the bench, Alan Smith made his comeback in the reserves on Tuesday and Shola  Ameobi is expected to resume full training today.
