Nolan - We must be ruthless

Kevin Nolan believes Newcastle United need to be more ruthless in front of goal if they are to avoid the drop. Newcastle slipped into the relegation places at the weekend after a 3-1 home defeat by Arsenal. The Magpies had chances to take the lead against the Gunners, none more so than when Obafemi Martins fluffed his lines from the penalty spot in the first half. But Arsene Wenger's side punished their hosts for their failure to turn their attacking possession into goals and the 26-year-old knows the importance of taking your chances. "It's down to us now to start being ruthless, ruthless with each other and against teams," he told the club's official website. "Against Arsenal you have to take your chances and we had plenty in the first hour. That's why they are class because if you don't punish them they'll punish you. "But if we can produce what we did in the first hour for 90 minutes then I'm sure we'll get out of it." UnconcernedDespite a total of three goals on their last five league games and, more alarmingly, only one win in 12 matches, the former Bolton midfielder is not worrying about relegation even though there are just eight Premier League games remaining. "There are no sirens going off here just yet," he added. "The next two are always going to be tough games and we've got to pick ourselves up for Chelsea. "But I'd far rather be in the bottom three now than at the end of the season. "I think we've got enough in the locker and enough in the changing room to get us out of this in the next eight games. "But the lads are up for the fight and certainly, I believe we have got enough in the changing room and I don't believe we will go down. "Even though we are in a sticky situation at the moment, I am 100 per cent positive that we will still be in the Premier League come the end of the season."
