Nolan To Topple Barnes And Nobby?

Kevin Nolan has 18 goals to his name this term, with Andy Carroll just behind him on 17 and Peter Lovenkrands on 15. Can he beat re-write history? Nolan goes into the final three games as hot favourite to end the season as top scorer ... and if he does it ... he will be the first Toon midfielder to top the scoring charts (outright) since 1992 and Gavin Peacock's total of 19. Nobby Solano shared the honour with Carl Cort and Alan Shearer (7 goals) in 2000/01; and John Barnes shared with Shearer (7 goals) in 1997/98. Kevin Nolan: “To be quite honest, I haven’t been too bothered about being top scorer, just getting goals that matter. “I think Andy and Peter want to be to be top scorer more than I do. But it’s a massive thing and I’m delighted just to score goals – that’s what I set out to do at the start of the season. “It’s massive to us to win the title. If you saw those fans at Reading, all 4,000 of them, they deserve that. “It just shows that we have to put in the right amount of determination to make sure they get what they want. “They’ve had a lot of disappointment in recent years, but this season has been a massive turnaround for us.”
