Nolan - Sports Personality of the Year

Kevin Nolan claimed the award for Sports Personality of the Year at Newcastle's Civic Centre last night. Newcastle secretary Malcom Dix: “Kevin Nolan was an outstanding skipper of the Championship-winning team and has demonstrated his goalscoring skill in the Championship and again in the Premier League this season.” Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick – brother of Tottenham Hotspur’s former Sunderland custodian Ben – scooped the Wor Jackie Trophy as one of North East football’s rising stars, while reserve team captain Paul Dummett was named as one of 12 Rising Stars. The 19-year-old left-back, a Welsh Under-21 international, recently signed a two-year professional contract. Sixteen-year-old Magpies striker Adam Campbell received the Jack Hickson Award as the North East’s outstanding young footballer. The England Under-16 international won the golden boot and most valuable player awards at the Nike World Finals in Manchester last month. Former Newcastle United chairman Sir John Hall was given a special award.
