Kevin Nolan was sent off for a dangerously high tackle on Everton striker Victor Anichebe this afternoon as Newcastle turned nasty in their clash at St James' Park.[LNB]The former Bolton captain was shown a straight red for his two-footed challenge late in the 43rd minute of a brutal first half.[LNB]Anichebe needed lengthy treatment and, after trying to carry on, eventually hobbled off the pitch to be replaced by Marouane Fellaini.[LNB] Off: Kevin Nolan is shown the red card for his two-footed challenge on Everton's Victor Anichebe[LNB]Nolan waited to offer an apology to the England Under 21 international, who was lucky to escape without breaking his leg.[LNB]Newcastle, fighting a relegation battle, set the tone in the fourth minute when Peter Lovenkrands clattered Mikel Arteta with a late challenge.[LNB]The Spanish midfielder was taken off on a stretcher to be replaced by Segundo Castillo.[LNB]Ryan Taylor was then lucky to escape without even a booking for a robust challenge on Everton's Jack Rodwell.[LNB]The teams went in goalless at half time.
