Nolan "humbled" at winning award

KEVIN Nolan claims he was humbled to be named Sports Personality of the Year at the annual Sport Newcastle Awards at Newcastle Civic Centre, writes Scott Wilson.[LNB] The Newcastle United captain was honoured for his role in last season's Championship title-winning campaign, and his 11 Premier League goals during the current campaign.[LNB] I feel very humble, speechless really, said Nolan. When you find you are up for an award like this, you think, 'What have I done to deserve it' I just want to thank everyone who has helped me here at Newcastle.[LNB] Former Newcastle United chairman Sir John Hall received a special lifetime achievement award to commemorate his huge impact on sport in Newcastle and the wider North-East region in general.[LNB] Whitley Bay Football Club won the Frank Brennan Trophy after winning two FA Vases on the bounce, while Newcastle Diamonds speedway club won the Team and Community Award.[LNB] Former world champion boxer Glenn McCrory won the Wilkinson Sword in recognition of his work with the Glenn McCrory Gym in Newcastle, while acclaimed fencing coach Ian Aberdeen won the Stan Calvert Award for Coaching.[LNB] Newcastle United goalkeeper Jak Alnwick won the Wor Jackie Award, with 16-year-old Magpies striker Adam Campbell receiving the Jack Hixon Trophy as Tyneside's most promising young footballer.[LNB]
