Nolan hat-trick puts Magpies top

A HAT-TRICK from Kevin Nolan ensured that Newcastle Uniteds trip to Portman Road was a memorable one.[LNB] Ipswich had given the match the perfect pre-match build up, with past players, the renaming of the North Stand and an emotional rendition of Abide With Me marking the match between the two clubs closest to Sir Bobby Robsons heart.[LNB] But once the football started, Ipswich fans were left frustrated as Newcastle offered further evidence that they are on course for a quick Premier League return this season.[LNB] Roy Keane, the former Sunderland manager, is now without a win in nine matches and Ipswich are now three points adrift of pulling level with the teams sitting above the relegation zone.[LNB] And this was far too easy for Newcastle, who climbed top of the Championship after West Broms failure to win at home to Crystal Palace.[LNB] The Magpies took the lead on the half hour when Ryan Taylors free-kick from the right flank was headed into the top corner by Nolan at the near post.[LNB] Nolan then cleverly worked his way around defender Pim Balkestein before rolling the second underneath Wright two minutes later.[LNB] Worse was to follow for Keane. Less than four minutes after the first, Ryan Taylor curled a 30-yard free-kick towards the back post which was tipped into the far corner by a hapless Wright.[LNB] The former England goalkeeper did not have to wait too much longer to concede the fourth.[LNB] After a surging run down the flank from Zurab Khizanishvili, making his first start following his loan from Blackburn, he rolled back to Taylor.[LNB] The former Wigan winger delivered to the back post, Nile Ranger nodded goalwards and Nolan charged in to head in his hat-trick goal. This might not have been the outcome Robson would have preferred for the two clubs he adored, but it all seemed to come all too cheaply for Newcastle.[LNB] IPSWICH TOWN (4-5-1): Wright; Rosenior, Bruce (Smith 40), Balkestein, Delaney (Peters 60); Walters, Colback, Trotter, Leadbitter, Edwards; Priskin (Counago).
