No worries for Hughton

Chris Hughton insists he cannot afford to listen to ongoing takeover speculation at Newcastle - for the sake of his sanity. Toon boss Hughton has spent much of the last three months or so surrounded by claim and counter-claim about his club's immediate future and the part he may or may not play in it. But despite claims that Tyneside businessman Barry Moat is ready to push home his interest and instal Alan Shearer as manager, caretaker Hughton told the Evening Chronicle: "If I worried about things like that, I would drive myself mad." He added: "The new speculation is nothing I have been told about by anyone at the club, so I am just getting on with my job. "I don't know what would happen if there was a change of ownership. The way for me to deal with it is to just get on with my job." Several interested parties remain actively involved in the sale process, and there are offers on the table - although Moat's is understood to amount to somewhat less than the £100million for which Mike Ashley is looking.
