No Ambition From Shearer These Days!

Former Newcastle United striker Bryan 'Pop' Robson says ex-players such as Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker should be working within the England set-up.

But, sadly, Shearer and Linekar have no intentions of leaving their "cushy jobs" in a BBC studio to actually put something back into the game.

Shearer hasn't been the same person since his eight-game horror spell as Newcastle manager FIVE YEARS ago!

That knocked the ambition out of him.

Robson, who was released as Sunderland’s chief scout at the end of the season, is concerned by the lack of English goalscorers in the Premier League.

The 67-year-old wants to see a similar system to goalkeepers, where retired international Ray Clemence trains the senior professionals in the squad.

Shearer scored 30 goals in 63 appearances for his country, while Linekar is England’s second-highest goalscorer with 48.

Frank Lampard, 34, and 30-year-old Rickie Lambert ended the campaign with the most league goals by Englishmen with just 15.

Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson: “What amazes me is we have goalkeeping coaches, but not striker coaches.

“People like Shearer and Lineker should be working with English strikers.

“It’s a worry to me in the English game.

“I don’t know where development is going to come from. The Premier League has spent a lot of money on academies but we need to keep working on it.

“It’s 40 years since I was top goalscorer with 28 goals in 1973, and that now seems a lot of goals.

“But back then there were other English players scoring and competing up to that level.”

WE TELL IT AS IT IS - NO BULLSHIT!
