Beye has been out of action since Boxing Day due to an ankle ligament injury but is now working his socks off to boost the Newcastle cause sooner rather than later. [LNB]Having discarded his crutches and protective boot, the French-born Senegalese international right-back can now see light at the end of the tunnel. [LNB]"I've now started my recovery and I can do some work with my ankle on the bike and also some boxing," the 31-year-old said. "I hope to be back training in about five weeks but I don't want to rush things because it was a bad injury. [LNB]"I want to come back with a solid ankle so if I have to wait a little bit longer then so be it. [LNB]"Myself and the Doc decided not to have surgery and he has done a great job with me and my ankle feels good." [LNB]Beye joined Newcastle 18 months ago from Marseilles during Sam Allardyce's reign as the St James' Park manager and has proved to be one of the more astute buys of recent years. [LNB]A consistent performer, he played 44 games before damaging his ankle at the JJB Stadium but has admitted he feels like a peripheral figure at the Tyneside club because of the injury. [LNB]"When you come into training on your crutches every day and you see your team-mates going out to training it's hard," Beye added. [LNB]"But now I'm a part of the team because when you have crutches and you do nothing you think you are nothing! [LNB]"It's good to have my boot off so I can come back into training and sweat a little bit. [LNB]"I have to work hard and the hard work is still ahead of me, but I'm very happy to be back working towards playing again. [LNB]"Three months out is a long time and I just can't wait to be back."
