De Jong returns for Magpies

Siem de Jong will be in the Newcastle squad to face Swansea for the first time since August after recovering from a collapsed lung.

The Holland midfielder will be included after undergoing surgery to repair the lung, and he will be joined by striker Facundo Ferreyra, who has not made the squad since November because of a back problem.

Jonas Gutierrez, who was left out last weekend following a training-ground row with head coach John Carver, is also back.

Midfielder Moussa Sissoko completes his two-match ban while striker Papiss Cisse sits out the sixth instalment of his seven-game suspension.

Although defender Paul Dummett (knee) and midfielder Rolando Aarons are close to returns, goalkeeper Rob Elliot will not play again this season after damaging a thigh muscle.

Carver has bemoaned his luck as he attempts to turn around a dreadful run of results.

The Magpies are desperate to end a sequence of six successive Barclays Premier League defeats which has left them just seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Their form, coupled with protests from fans furious at the way owner Mike Ashley is running the club, has made for an uncomfortable atmosphere at St James' Park, and Carver admits he could do with a change in fortune this weekend.

He said: "This is a bad time at the moment - I can't wait for the good time. I'm really going to enjoy myself, because I have had everything go against me.

"But when you've got faith in your own ability, then nothing fazes you. It's hard picking yourself up after the run of games we've had, but if I was going to give up on it, then it's a waste of time sitting here now.

"If I didn't think I could do it, I'd walk away now, but that's not the case."

Garry Monk believes Swansea's appetite for the Premier League fight is still there after seeing their hunger in training this week.

Swansea lost to a bottom-seven side for the first time this season when Leicester overpowered them at the King Power Stadium last weekend and ran out convincing 2-0 winners.

But Swansea boss Monk says he has seen a positive response on the training ground.

"The will to win is there, I see it in training every day," Monk said.

"We were disappointed with our performance last week, we didn't reach the standards we have set for the majority of the season.

"But my experience at this club is every time we have a setback we've come back stronger and that's what I have been telling the players this week.

"Hopefully you'll see a good reaction and the hunger at Newcastle.

"We were asked that same question three or four weeks ago and we answered it very strongly with the performances and the results that we got.

"The setback we had at Leicester is another chance for us to answer that question."

Bafetimbi Gomis remains out with a hamstring problem so loan signing Nelson Oliveira deputises up front again, while central defender Jordi Amat should fill in at full-back once more as Neil Taylor completes a two-match suspension.
