Newcastle urged to listen to fans

Newcastle United Supporters Club have urged the Magpies to listen to the fans following owner Mike Ashley's decision to put the club up for sale for a second time. Ashley revealed at the weekend he was looking to sell his 100% stake as soon as possible following Newcastle's "catastrophic" relegation to the Coca-Cola Championship. Ashley was the subject of a bitter backlash by fans following Kevin Keegan's departure as manager for a second time last September. That prompted the sportswear tycoon to put the club up for sale but he could not find a suitable buyer. Now Newcastle, who have yet to secure the services of manager Alan Shearer on a long-term contract, must prepare to begin a new era in the second tier. A statement from NUSC read: "The end of the Ashley era means lessons learned and opportunities for the future. We believe one of Mr Ashley's fundamental errors was to fail to listen to the fans and we believe that the fans are now a fundamental part of a positive solution to the current issue of direction of the club. "The fans are an important 'constant' and they will make this club attractive to potential buyers. Newcastle United Supporters Club hopes that any future owners will see the value of engaging with fans at the earliest opportunity to ensure that Newcastle United learns from the mistakes of the past and builds a brighter future."
