Newcastle tracking two European forwards

Newcastle are set to make a move for a top European forward once the transfer window re opens in January. The club have been keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen and Swiss striker Eren Derdiyok and also Luuk de Jong of FC Twente.

Having failed to splash out on a big name replacement for Andy Carroll in the previous transfer window, Alan Pardew is now ready to part with the cash made from Carrolls sale to Liverpool.

While Demba Ba and Leon Best have performed well this season, fans feel a big name is needed to compete with the two. 21 year old De Jong has scored 21 times in 52 games for Twente, while Derdiyok, aged 23, has bagged 20 goals for Leverkusen in 71 appearances since signing from FC Basel in 2009.

Reports suggest that The Magpies are unlikely to sign both and the club are currently in the process of trying to decide which of the two is the right man to lead the line at St James Park.
