Hull have had a bid rejected for Newcastle defender Habib Beye - but will continue their pursuit of the Senegalese international. The East Yorkshire club have offered around £2million, which is £2m short of Newcastle's valuation. Beye, 31, has a year left on his contract and has publicly stated his desire to leave with Blackburn having also shown an interest. He played in Saturday's humiliating 6-1 pre-season friendly defeat at Leyton Orient. Newcastle want to reduce their wage bill but the deal is being hampered by the off-field uncertainty at St James' Park. Former Marseille captain Beye, who has been at Newcastle since summer 2007, would slot into the right-back berth that Hull need tofill. Beye, who has also played for Paris St Germain and Strasbourg, won Newcastle's players' player of the season award in his first year at the club. Hull sold versatile defender Sam Ricketts last week to Bolton for£3m so signing full-backs has become a top priority. Their star man, centre back Michael Turner, could still depart although a £12m pricetag has been placed on him. Phil Brown's side are still struggling for forwards with Richard Garcia ruled out for up to three months due to his knee injury. Craig Fagan may also miss the start of the Barclays Premier League season. Daniel Cousin and Caleb Folan are the only specialist strikers left at the club and both have expressed their desire to leave if the right offer comes along. Brown has not given up hope on signing Bobby Zamora despite the Fulham striker's apparent loss of interest in a move.
