Newcastle reject £25m Liverpool bid for Carroll

NEWCASTLE United have rejected a Liverpool bid of around £25m for striker Andy Carroll.[LNB] With Fernando Torres set to move to Chelsea for around £40m, Anfield chiefs have moved quickly in an attempt to replace the Spaniard.[LNB] A formal offer of around £25m was made to the Newcastle hierarchy this morning, but it was immediately rejected out of hand.[LNB] [LNB] It remains to be seen whether Liverpool return with an improved offer, but with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp also keen to pull off a deal for Carroll, a busy transfer deadline day is in the offing.[LNB] Meanwhile, Newcastle are expected to confirm a season-long loan for Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland shortly.[LNB]
