On the attack: Taylor says the club didn't tell him he was for sale [LNB]Newcastle United have put Steven Taylor up for sale after contract talks with the central defender collapsed. [LNB]Taylor's deal ends at the end of the season and he had asked for a new contract worth about £45,000-a-week to stay with the club he joined as a schoolboy. [LNB]But Newcastle want to insert a clause which would see the defender's wages fall by £20,000 if they are relegated to the Championship. [LNB]Talks between the two sides have broken down, prompting the club to officially place him on the transfer list on Wednesday morning. [LNB]Taylor last night insisted he wants to stay, but hit out at Newcastle for informing him of their decision 'through a third party'. [LNB]A statement released by his agents, Triple S, said: 'Figures released to the media today by Newcastle United do not accurately reflect the position of Steven and his agent. However, both are happy to continue negotiations over a new and extended contract at Newcastle.[LNB] 'Steven's disappointed to learn he was placed on the transfer list through a third party. He has always given 100 per cent at Newcastle and will continue to do so given the opportunity.' [LNB]The 24-year-old has been plotting his comeback from the shoulder injury which has kept him out of Newcastle's opening two Premier League fixtures and hopes to be ready for first team action by the end of October. [LNB] In Toon: Carroll netted a hat-trick as Newcastle beat Villa 6-0 on Sunday [LNB]Unless negotiations can be revived, Newcastle will look to off-load him either before next Tuesday's transfer deadline or in the January transfer window and a club spokesman confirmed Taylor is now on the transfer list. [LNB]When the club were relegated two years ago, several players did not have relegation clauses of the type which are now standard in contracts at Premier League clubs who are in danger of going down. [LNB]Aston Villa, Fulham, Everton and Liverpool have all previously expressed interest in Taylor and, with less than a year to run of his contract, Newcastle will ask for a fee of about £5million. [LNB]He enjoyed a special bond with the Toon Army because he came through the club's youth ranks to establish himself as one of the leading young English defenders. [LNB]He missed the second half of last season after undergoing shoulder surgery and suffered a further setback when he had a training ground fight with team-mate Andy Carroll. [LNB]The pair resolved their differences and Carroll has begun the Premier League season in superb form, scoring a hattrick in the 6-0 demolition of Aston Villa on Sunday.[LNB] Newcastle new boy Cheick Tiote will be talk of the Toon, says ex-England boss Steve McClaren Hull set to move for out-of-favour Aston Villa defender Habib Beye NEWCASTLE FC
