Newcastle owner Ashley rewards Kinnear with new two-year deal

Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has been offered a new two-year deal by the Magpies Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear has been offered a new two-year contract by the club’s owner Mike Ashley. The long-term deal is Kinnear’s reward for temporarily steering Newcastle away from relegation, even though they are far from safe and crashed out of the FA Cup with a home loss to Hull City. Kinnear confirmed the offer came after talks with Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias, despite picking up only four wins in 17 games. He told Talksport: ‘I’m just mulling it over. I have been offered a very lucrative contract. ‘We’ve sat down and talked about taking theclub forward and about reinvesting in the summer. 'But I said to them, first and foremost, we have to avoid relegation. ‘I don’t need any more distractions than that. I suggested that we all sit down in the summer and discuss what direction we want to take the club in.’ Kinnear faces former Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce at Ewood Park on Saturday and the search for his second away win of the season may involve a recall to the bench for controversial midfielder Joey Barton.   More...
