Carroll spoke out after impressing Shearer by scoring twice for Newcastle reserves in a 2-1 win over Manchester City at St James' Park on Monday night. It boosted his chances of spearheading the Newcastle attack in the relegation six-pointer at Stoke City on Saturday. Newcastle fans treated to Alan Shearer masterclass at open training session "Hopefully I will get a chance between now and the end of the season," said Carroll, 20. "All I have got to do is keep working hard on my fitness. I have had a couple of injury problems in the past few weeks, and it's good to be back." Carroll added: "It was great to get a run-out. It was a good 90 minutes, and I was happy to score two goals. "For the first one it was a great strike, and I was happy to see it go in. "The second was after good move, and I managed to keep my composure and roll the ball under their keeper." Shearer admitted he had been impressed with Carroll's endeavours. "I asked Andy to go out and show me what he could do, and he did that," said Shearer. "Like all of the lads who came from the first team, he showed a great appetite and a great attitude."
