Newcastle Fools To Let Routledge Go?

16 May 2013 11:42
It was Chris Hughton who let Wayne Routledge slip the net after Newcastle's promotion, with rumour suggesting Hughton didn't feel the winger was Premiership class.

Well today the Swansea City midfielder could be the only uncapped player named in Roy Hodgson's England squad for the end-of-season friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

Routledge, 28, has never been in an England squad before but won 12 caps for the Under-21s and played extensively for England at junior level when he was a teenager.

He has also been used in a more central role by manager Michael Laudrup this season, although his more regular position is as a right winger.

Hodgson will announce his squad today with a press conference at the Luton headquarters of the national team's sponsors, Vauxhall.
