Newcastle fans deserve better, says Habib Beye as he plots St James' escape

Want-away Newcastle defender Habib Beye may be preparing to walk away from the shambolic club but he says he has every sympathy with fed up supporters. The Senegal international is one of many prepared to move on from the chaos at St James' Park after a summer of uncertainty and with the future ownership and managerial situation unresolved. More than 4,000 Newcastle supporters turned up at Darlington on Saturday to see the disjointed side pull off a 7-2 win over Colin Todd's side. And they made their feelings known to managing director Derek Llambias, chanting Alan Shearer's name throughout the match, and one supporter throwing a pair of underpants at the Newcastle suit. Beye is clearly considering his own future on Tyneside, despite claiming he would stay following last season's relegation, but the defender shares fans' concerns about the club's future. The 31-year-old said: 'I feel for them because they deserve better, much, much better. They need to know what the future is at this club, and it must be terribly hard for them. The fans were better than us last season. 'But it's important to have a good relationship between the fans and the players. We will always try to communicate with them. They are brilliant.' Steve McMahon's Profitable Group have been told their bid is 'under serious consideration' but there are no further developments over the weekend.
