Newcastle are set to add another French star to their ranks after Romain Amalfitano arrived in the North-east to finalise a three-year-contract.

According to The Independent, the 22 year-old midfielder agreed in principle to move to Newcastle in February and will leave Stade de Reims on a free transfer following the clubs' promotion to Ligue 1.

Newcastle have seven France-born players in their squad including French international stars Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa and promising youngsters Yven Moyo and Mehdi Abeid.

They believe the market in France offers far better value for money, with salaries in the French top division for the season 2010-11 half those in the Premier League.
