Newcastle appeal Remy red

Newcastle have appealed against the sending off which is set to keep Loic Remy out of Saturday's derby clash with Sunderland.

The 27-year-old Frenchman was dismissed along with Norwich's Bradley Johnson in Tuesday night's Barclays Premier League 0-0 draw at Carrow Road.

Referee Chris Foy showed the red cards after the pair clashed following an untidy tussle.

A club spokesman said: "Newcastle United can confirm that the club has lodged an appeal with the Football Association for the wrongful dismissal of Loic Remy during Tuesday's Barclays Premier League fixture with Norwich City at Carrow Road.

"Remy was given a straight red card by referee Chris Foy in the 81st minute of the game following an incident involving Norwich City's Bradley Johnson."

Norwich announced on Wednesday that they too would appeal against Johnson's dismissal.

Should Remy fail in his appeal, he will miss the league games against Sunderland, Chelsea and Tottenham.
