Newcastle 3 Peterborough 1: Brilliant Gutierrez inspires leaders to victory

Jonas Gutierrez may not be looking forward to the luxury of the extended summer break that most of his team-mates will enjoy, but,  when the postcards stop dropping on the doormats, there's little doubt there'll be wry smiles if the 26-year-old midfielder dares to write 'wish you were here' on his - especially if they are postmarked 'South Africa'.[LNB]Gutierrez demonstrated a dazzling flash of the quality which has earned him inclusion in the Diego Maradona's World Cup squad to score his first ever competitive goal since he arrived from Real Mallorca in the summer of 2008, ghosting through a maze of opposition legs before nestling a right-footer into the right-hand corner after 15 minutes.[LNB] Nice one son: Jonas Gutierrez celebrates scoring the opening goal at St James' Park[LNB]His goal was the launching pad for as one-sided a first-half as youcould get from teams operating at the same level. It was also theArgentinian's final contribution to it, a pulled groin forcing him outof the game seven minutes later.[LNB]By which time Andy Carroll had extended the lead, heading a Danny Guthrie cross past Joe Lewis from eight yards. And there could and should have been a few more to take into the break.[LNB]Guthrie smacked an effort against the post and the Posh goal survived a succession of goalmouth scrambles with frenzied but tenacious defending.[LNB]If the demonstrations against Mike Ashley's decision to gave the famous stadium a dot.com title, it didn't seem to bother him too much.[LNB]The billionaire entrepreneur looked down almost impassively from his lofty perch in the directors' box. If the layers of skin he must have picked up in his empire-building were enough to enable to sit jacket-less on a chilly Tyneside afternoon, they were surely thick enough to cushion the Toon Army's criticism.[LNB] Protest: Fans make their feelings clear to chairman Mike Ashley[LNB]'You fat bastard - get out of our club. We want Ashley out,' they chanted as they stood up for St James' Park.[LNB]What a waste of Geordie breath. Newcastle's owner is going nowhere - not when the team is sitting comfortably at the top of the Championship table.[LNB]The team managed nicely to stay well on top, even at times persuading their following to swtich their attention away from Ashley to what was happening on the pitch.[LNB]It was Danny Simpson's turn to get his name on the scoresheet for the first time in his loan spell from Manchester United to make it three in the 52nd minute, a quality left-foot chip that would not have been out of place at the Theatre of Dreams before Newcastle dropped their guard enough for Dean Keates to reduce the deficit with a right-footer from 12 yards in the 79th minute.[LNB]In fairness Peterborough stuck at it well enough to deserve some sort of respectability. But money talked - the club with the Championship's biggest wage bill were too much for one which pays peanuts in comparison.[LNB] Newcastle United fury as owner Mike Ashley renames St James' Park after his shopGrounds for concern!
