[LNB]Ashley has gone cold on the idea of appointing Shearer as manager following his ill-fated spell in charge last season that resulted in relegation from the Premier League. [LNB]Despite Ashley's misgiving and a record of one win in eight games at the helm, Newcastle supporters remain in no doubt that Shearer is the best man for the job. [LNB]"It is vital that Ashley acts quickly to quash the rumour and hearsay that surrounds the appointment of Shearer as our manager," the Newcastle United Supporters Club said on Monday. [LNB]"Alan understands the club, and, most importantly, understands the fans, and can only be seen as a serious selling point for our club. [LNB]"Ashley can resolve the relative instability by making a decision that will make Newcastle a more saleable asset by appointing Alan, and NUSC and its 1,200 members call for him to act quickly and make this happen. [LNB]"This decision will allow Ashley to bring to a close his tenure at Newcastle with a positive decision for the club's future, and it can only help his sale. This is an opportunity to show the fans their voice is being heard." [LNB]Shearer has been linked with West Bromwich Albion and Southampton but will get the chance to lead Newcastle out of the Championship if a local consortium, believed to involve former chairman Freddy Shepherd, successfully bids for his hometown club.
