Michael Owen story not over yet

Only three pieces of paper are required: a doctor's note evaluating the striker's fitness, a proposed salary slip more in tune with his changed circumstances and a photocopy of his England goals record (40 in 89 games). Pictures of Owen destroying Argentina's defence 11 years ago and wordy eulogies from past managers or team-mates are irrelevant. If healthy and hungry, Newcastle United's lost soul is worth buying, particularly if partnered by a strong centre-forward. He's tough, ambitious and intelligent. The Michael Owen story has another chapter in it – and it should run to more than 34 pages.
