McCann boost for Iron

Scunthorpe have no fresh injury worries ahead of the clash with Newcastle at Glanford Park. There had been fears Grant McCann would be ruled out after taking a knock in the 3-1 win over Sheffield United at the weekend but he is fit for the visit of the Magpies. Despite manager Nigel Adkins having a full compliment of players he will still be without two first-team players. Striker Ben May is on crutches and will be out until December with an ankle injury while Kenny Milne is still on the long road to recovery from a long-term knee problem. The Iron head into the match with Michael O'Connor available, despite him picking up his fifth booking of the season at the weekend. Due to the seven day rule he will instead miss next weekend's trip to Peterborough.
