Marveaux Heading Back To France?

They say a striker needs a goal to jump-start his career ... but what about a midfielder? Sylvain Marveaux has been challenged to build on his first goal for Newcastle United.

Marveaux scored in Thursday's disappointing 1-1 Europa League draw against Maritimo, when he rolled the ball under goalkeeper Romain Salin after being played in by Hatem Ben Arfa.

Marveaux has yet to hit the heights since his move from Rennes last year, but perhaps that could be the moment he looks back on.

Some rumours suggest the French winger has fallen out with Pardew, and one newspaper claims he will be returning to France in the summer.

Alan Pardew: “Sylvain scored a good goal, and he has got quality.

“But he needs to find consistency to be a starter in the Premier League in this team.

“There are a few players in this group who need to step up to the plate now, because we are going to have to ask them to.”
