Newcastle are to ban a fan who admitted using abusive language at St James' Park. Steven Hogg, 49, of Blackhill Crescent, Gateshead, was fined £200 and ordered to pay a further £100 in costs and victim surcharge by Newcastle magistrates yesterday after pleading guilty to a charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting language, but was not handed a football banning order as requested by police. The club's head of security, Steve Storey: "We are very disappointed that the magistrates did not see fit to support our efforts to try and stamp out racism at football by issuing a banning order. "But irrespective of this, the club will be banning Hogg from St James' Park for a period of time which is yet to be determined. "Persistent foul and abusive language is not acceptable at football matches. There is no excuse whatsoever for the use of racist language. "Such behaviour is a breach of ground regulations, which may lead to ejection and a ban from the ground. "It also may constitute a criminal offence which may result in arrest, prosecution, a football banning order and a criminal conviction. "The club is determined to stamp out such behaviour and take firm action against any offending supporter." Twelve football hooligans have admitted taking part in clashes involving Newcastle United and Sunderland fans. The incident took place at Newcastle Central Station on 8 August 2009, when hundreds of Sunderland fans returned from a friendly match in Scotland. The men, now aged between 19 and 51, pleaded guilty to affray at Newcastle Crown Court. They will be sentenced next month. A further eight fans are due to appear in court next week. Fifteen Newcastle United fans were sentenced last year after admitting violent disorder in connection with the same incident. BLACKBURN ROVERS - EWOOD PARK Directions & Car ParkingFrom The North Use Motorway M6 to junction 30, to the M61 - leave junction 9 then onto the M65 towards Blackburn - leave the M65 at Junction 4 (A666) and follow signs towards Blackburn. Ewood Park is about 1 mile down the road on the right hand side. Turn right at the first set of traffic lights and Ewood Park is about 1 mile down the road on the right hand side. From The EastUse Motorway M62 onto M66/A56, then onto the M65, head towards Blackburn - leave the M65 at Junction 4 (A666) and follow signs towards Blackburn. Turn right at the first set of traffic lights and Ewood Park is about 1 mile down the road on the right hand side. Various private Car Parks are available around the ground, costing in the region of £4-£5. If you want to get away reasonably quickly after the game (the roads immediately around Ewood are closed off for crowd safety for around 30mins after the game) then as you come down the hill on the A666, you will pass a Total garage on your left. Turn right at the next traffic lights and down on your left there are some industrial units where you can park for £3. After the game turn left out of the car park, so that you are going away from Ewood, turn right at the second mini roundabout and this will take you back up to the M65. By Train Blackburn station is at least a couple of miles from the ground and hence a good 20-25 minute walk away. Perhaps grab a taxi instead, or as Dave Grest suggests; 'get a Darwen bound bus from stand M, outside of the railway station. It costs ?1.50 one way and you really can't miss the ground'. Blackburn station is served by trains from Manchester & Leeds. Tony Durkin adds; 'The main doors to the railway station face the bus station, from where you can take a either a Number 1, 3 or 225 bus (the latter goes from Stand N) bus to Ewood. To walk it to the ground instead, turn left at those main doors and go straight on towards Darwen Street. Turn left and you will reach a major junction over which runs a railway bridge (Darwen Street Bridge), which is impossible to miss. Crossing over the road as soon as you turn left onto Darwen Street will be a help, as when you get to the junction you need to follow the road towards Bolton. It is called Great Bolton Street after the bridge and then becomes Bolton Road. Follow this straight along for just over a mile (passing the Infirmary on your left and the canal on the right). After you go under another railway bridge, the ground is down on your left just after you pass the Aqueduct pub (for home fans only)'. Tony Hughes informs me; 'Closer to the ground is the small station of Mill Hill, which is a 10-15 minute walk away. Blackburn station is only a three minute ride away from Mill Hill. Walk up the steps from the platform and turn Left onto New Chapel Street continue along the street past the shopping area and park. (If you need any money, there is a Lloyds TSB bank with 2 cash machines on this street.) With the Spar supermarket on the opposite side of the road from you, turn left into New Wellington Street. Continue down New Wellington Street until you come to a small bridge that crosses over the Leeds Liverpool canal. You are now on Albion Street there is a large mill building on the left and a small school on the right. Walk along Albion Street to the end, and you will find yourself on Livesey Branch Road. Turn Left onto this road, and you will be able to see the football stadium in front of you at the foot of the hill'. Where To Drink The Fernhurst is really known as the 'away supporters pub'. It is on the Bolton Road (A666) just across from the ground at the away supporters end (Darwen End). You can also park at the Fernhurst pub for £5, but you will be delayed in getting away after the game. It is a large pub with Sky Sports being shown on a large screen and has a restaurant area to its rear and a large function room upstairs. On my last visit the pub had even put up a number of signs welcoming the fans of the visiting team, which was a nice touch. The Fernhurst also offers reasonably priced accommodation. Most other pubs that I came across in the area, had large signs outside showing that they were for home fans only. Alcohol is also served within the ground. Andrew Kennedy; 'I would also recommend the Golden Cup pub just up Bolton Road from the Fernhurst (going away from the ground). It is on the small side but had a good mix of home and away supporters on my visit'. This pub is a good 15 minute walk away from the Fernhurst going uphill. A little closer but in the same direction is the Bear Hotel which also has a large bar and offers parking for £4. If you are arriving at Mill Hill station, then you might want to give the Navigation pub a try. It is a Thwaites pub which sits on one side of a canal and on my visit had a good mix of home and away supporters. It is about a five minute walk way from the station. As you exit the station turn left and just keep straight on up the road in front of you. As you approach a bridge going over the canal, the pub can be seen just over on the right. Away Fans Away fans are housed at the Darwen End, where the facilities provided are good. However, the spacing between the rows of seats leaves a lot to be desired, being quite tight. The Darwen End is shared with home supporters, but if demand requires it the whole of the stand can be made available. Normally the away allocation is for three quarters of the stand, at just under 4,000 tickets, which are split between the whole of the upper tier and part of the lower tier (with the lower tier being allocated first). If you have not bought a ticket in advance, then you need to buy one from the away supporters ticket office at the ground as you can't pay on the turnstiles. The ticket office is located on the corner of the Darwen End & the Jack Walker Stand. Alcohol is available on the concourse as well as the normal range of pies (Hollands), burgers, hot dogs and chips. If you are looking to eat something prior to entering the ground, then there is a baker in Bolton Road selling hot pies from one of its windows. Across the Bolton Road by the home end is a McDonalds, which I noticed had a walk through service for fans! I found the Blackburn fans both friendly and helpful, plus coupled with the relaxed stewarding, has made it so far for me, four pleasant visits to Ewood Park. There was the obvious - 3-0 down after ten minutes; but I was amazed how the 50,000 Toon fans kept their composure while I was ranting and raving like a maniac. I felt the stadium would get very very ugly if we went 2-0 down, what with the transfer dealing earlier in the week ... but even at 4-0 down it didn't happen. Yeah there were idiots like me losing their rag ... but ythankfully ... not that many. Evertone was disappointed (to say the least) but the pure hatred I expected was kept under control. The question was - who to blame - Ashley or Carroll? But Toon fans are not idiots and we all know either party could have blocked the transfer IF they wanted. Ashley could have said "no" to Liverpool and Carroll (having just signed a five year contract) could have said "no" to Ashley. The fact is ... they are BOTH greedy tossers ... so why worry about it? Coming back from 4-0 down against a team like Arsenal was something we will never ever forget. I was at St James' Park when we bounced back from 4-1 down to beat Leicester City when they had Mike Hooper in goal, and I was at Loftus Road when we were 4-0 up at half-time and were lucky to get away with 5-5 against QPR. But this was remarkable, because of who Arsenal are! I asked my mate (Dennis Taylor) who he thought was Man Of The Match and he replied: "In the second half - the WHOLE team!" How can I argue? Footymad Match Report: Cheik Tiote's first goal in English football secured a remarkable point for Newcastle as they fought back from 4-0 down against 10-man Arsenal. The Ivory Coast international pegged back the Gunners with a stunning 87th-minute volley after Joey Barton had scored twice from the penalty spot either side of Leon Best's fourth goal of the season. Alan Pardew's men were in complete disarray as the Gunners raced into a 4-0 lead at St James' Park within the opening 26 minutes. Goals from Theo Walcott, Johan Djourou and a Robin van Persie double looked to have wrapped up the points and allowed Arsenal to keep the pressure on Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United. But after midfielder Abou Diaby had been sent off for furiously pushing Barton to the ground after a no-holds-barred 48th-minute challenge, Newcastle, roared on by a crowd of 51,561, pulled off the most unlikely of recoveries. Life for Newcastle without Andy Carroll had got off to a bad start at Fulham on Wednesday evening, and the mood inside St James' was decidedly ugly by the time 10 chaotic minutes had elapsed. Arsenal were breathtaking as their pace and movement left the men in black and white at times bewildered. However, they met little resistance as a Newcastle side which had won 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium in November showed few signs of producing a similarly dogged display on their own pitch, even with combative midfielder Tiote restored to the side after his three-match ban. The worry before kick-off had been that, without Carroll, now at Liverpool, and the injured Shola Ameobi, the ball would not stick in the final third of the field and that would invite pressure on to Newcastle's back four. In the event, neither Carroll nor Ameobi would have made a significant difference as their side saw too little of the ball to worry the Gunners. They did not see it at all in amid a red and white blizzard as Arsenal had the game under control before they had broken sweat. Walcott had scored twice in a 4-0 Carling Cup victory on Tyneside in October, and he needed only 42 seconds to increase his tally as he ran on to Andrey Arshavin's pass and slid the ball past Steve Harper with Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson trailing in his wake. There were less than three minutes on the clock when Djourou was inexplicably allowed to meet an Arshavin free-kick seven yards out, and his header flew in off the underside of the crossbar. When Van Persie fired home a third goal from Walcott's cross in the 10th minute, a packed house settled down for what looked certain to be an agonising remaining 80 minutes. The first chorus of disapproval aimed at owner Mike Ashley rang around St James' Park as the game restarted. Wenger's men were simply irresistible, with Cesc Fabregas and Diaby dominating in the middle of the pitch to allow Arshavin, Walcott and Jack Wilshere to repeatedly run at the shell-shocked Newcastle defence. Arsenal increased their lead with 26 minutes gone when Van Persie headed Bacary Sagna's cross home, and it came as a surprise that the scoreline remained at 4-0 when the half-time whistle handed the Magpies brief respite. Van Persie might have done better after running on to Williamson's weak header and shooting wide, and Harper managed to turn the Dutchman's shot against the post in injury-time. But the cracks started to appear after Diaby over-reacted to Barton's rugged challenge and pushed him to the ground to earn an inevitable red card. Newcastle took the Frenchman's untimely departure as their cue to step up a gear, and they got their reward after 68 minutes when, after Koscielny had brought down Best inside the box, Barton converted from the penalty spot to at least give the more optimistic members of the Toon Army some hope. Alarm bells started ringing for the Gunners when Best struck from close range with 15 minutes remaining, and when Barton drilled home a second penalty with seven minutes to play, a point was there for the taking. Tiote saved the best for last when he lashed an 87th-minute left-footed volley into the bottom left corner to complete a remarkable repair job. Kevin Nolan might even have won the game for Newcastle in injury-time, but that was a little too much to ask.
