Magpies wait on Barton news
Newcastle caretaker boss Chris Hughton is waiting on the assessment of Joey Barton's foot injury sustained in Saturday's win over Reading.
The tenacious midfielder suffered the problem in the second half of the St James' Park clash and hobbled off in obvious discomfort with 10 minutes remaining.
However, the injury appeared to ease after the game and Barton will have the full extent of the damage assessed, with Hughton hoping the 26-year-old will have recovered in time to be in contention to face Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday.
"Joey got a whack on his foot," Hughton told the club's official website. "He was certainly a lot happier after the match than he was when he came off the pitch.
"We're hoping that it's just going to be a kick and we will assess it further."
