Magpies vow to keep Joe calm
Newcastle have told recovering manager Joe Kinnear that they will not allow him to rush his comeback to the dugout.
Kinnear remains absent from St James' Park following major heart surgery but is due to return to his duties at some stage next month.
The former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest boss has set his sights on the trip to Tottenham on April 18th for the game when he plans to be calling the shots from the sidelines.
Magpies managing director Derek Llambias believes Kinnear could even have some involvement in the clash against Stoke City a week earlier, but will insist on the 62-year-old taking a seat in the stands.
"He has made excellent progress and is already doing a lot of walking," Llambias said.
"He says he is feeling strong and the doctors are happy with him and how things are going in his recovery. We're happy as well and it all seems to be going to schedule.
"If it was up to Joe he would come back tomorrow, but realistically we are looking at the Stoke game.
"But we won't let him go in the dugout at Stoke, we can't have him jumping around and getting excited on the touchline.
"He'll have to take a seat with Mike Ashley and I in the stand and watch the game from there.
"We have to make sure he doesn't do too much."
